The Air Academy baseball team is one game away from winning its first state championship in a generation. The Kadets beat the Broomfield Eagles at Denver's All City Stadium Saturday morning 3-2 to force a winner-take-all rematch for the title.

All of Air Academy's runs were scored in the 2nd inning. The first came off the bat of Kevin Kimbrow who hit an RBI single. Curtis Butler hit a two run double to push the lead to three.

The state baseball tournament uses a double elimination format meaning teams advance with each win but must lose twice to before being eliminated. Air Academy fell to Cheyenne Mountain in the second round of play last Friday, but won their way back into the championship round. Broomfield hadn't lost until Saturday's game.

Should they win, the Kadets would claim a fifth state chamionship for their school this year, and the first baseball championship since 1989.
