The U.S. Attorney's Office in Denver has charged an underage child with two counts of juvenile delinquency for allegedly starting the Weber Fire back in June. A statement released by the US Attorney and the Bureau of Land Management states that the juvenile gathered leaves and underbrush around a bush and lit it with a Bic lighter. The act occurred on BLM land in Weber Canyon in Montezuma County.
The fire burned over 10,000 acres on federal, state and private land near the town of Mancos causing more than $5,000,000 in damage. The fire was investigated by the BLM with assistance from the Montezuma County Sheriff's Office.
