The Continuum - Julie Penrose Fountain at America the Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs is back on for the summer.
The city hasn't had the money to pay for the operation and maintenance of the fountain since 2009, so Kristen Downs started the "Friends of Julie Penrose Fountain."
"When we can keep something like the Julie Penrose Fountain flowing that's free for the whole entire community, and families and children alike can enjoy it all summer, it's really exciting and it shows that summer is here," says Downs.
The foundation must raise a minimum of $25,000 to keep the fountain running for the summer. The fountain uses re-circulated water. Some of that water will evaporate and needs to be replaced. Money also goes to staffing the fountain for public safety, supplies, and maintenance.
The foundation has received money from the El Pomar Foundation, H. Chase Stone Trust, and members of the community. To donation, go online to the Friends of Julie Penrose Fountain. Also, Phantom Canyon has introduced the "Continuum Ale" and will donate 25% of the summer sales of the beer to the fountain.
