John Dissauer is an award-winning, multi-media meteorologist with over 14 years experience forecasting weather. Prior to joining News 5, he worked as a meteorologist for WXIN-TV in Indianapolis, IN, owned his own weather consulting firm and worked for 12 years as a meteorologist in Cape Girardeau, MO.
John graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Broadcast Meteorology. He is a member of the National Weather Association and was awarded the NWA Seal of Approval in 2003.
During his forecasting career, John has had the opportunity to forecast a wide variety of weather from historic ice storms and floods, to tornado outbreaks, snow storms and heat waves.
Originally from Indiana, John's love for weather started at an early age. As a child, he remembers staying up late into the night to watch thunderstorms. He's still fascinated by the subject, and has logged 32 days and more than 18,000 miles chasing storms.
When not keeping an eye on our Southern Colorado weather, John enjoys aviation (he hopes to get his private pilot's license one day), sports, especially Indiana University basketball (Go Hoosiers!) and the Indianapolis Colts, and drum and bugle corps.
