WASHINGTON (AP) - Jobless Americans who have been out of work for a long time and local governments that are paying off loans to fix roads and schools are among those who will be impacted if automatic budget cuts kick in Friday.
That's when the so-called "sequester" spending cuts take effect unless there is agreement. Despite the looming threat, there's no indication the White House and congressional Republicans are actively negotiating a deal to avoid the cuts.
