A Colorado Springs bank that was robbed at gunpoint during the lunch hour was hit for the second time in a month. The American National Bank on Briargate and Rangewood was last robbed on February 28th.
Colin Downs was in there today to make a withdrawal. Instead, he got a gun pointed in his face.
"He came in and he said 'Hey, everybody get on the ground,' and no one really got down, everybody just kind of looked at him and wondered like was this a test is just didn't seem real," Downs said. But it was real and the robber had a gun.
"He started pointing guns at people's face, he got right in the middle, everybody got down and then he had the tellers stand up and empty the drawers and then get down."
The man took the cash and also robbed one of the customers. He left on foot and wasn't seen again. The police say it's unusual to have the same bank robbed twice in such short time period.
"Boy, this kind of caught us off guard," said Sgt. Dale Fox. "We're still following up on the last one and then this one comes in."
Fox says at this point the two robberies don't appear to be related. The suspects in the previous robbery, Daryl Keener and Gary Cyprian, were arrested earlier this month.
Fox says whether or not the suspect of this most recent robbery knows either Keener or Cyprian remains to be seen.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20's with a thin build, between 5'8 and 5'10 tall.
There have been 10 bank robberies in Colorado Springs this year. Arrests have been made in all of the previous robberies.
Keener and Cyprian are suspected in 6 of the 10 robberies and were formally charged in district court this afternoon.
