The City of Colorado Springs spokeswoman says the recent national media stories are accurate but some forgot "the second line."
Several outlets reported the public is being asked to bring their own lawn mowers if they want the city's parks trimmed. The city's park's department says they don't want just anyone doing it, but people can help through the Adopt-A-Park program.
"Anytime someone participates in one of our parks there are processes we need to follow to make sure that safety is taken into account and insurance is in place and everything can go as well as it can for the health and welfare of the park and the person doing the work," said Kurt Schroeder, Colorado Springs Parks Department.
This is already happening at Thorndale Park where a neighbor is taking care of the grass and the trash.
