Money went to the dogs on Saturday, one in particular.
The hope is to outfit, Scribbles, the Fountain Police Dog, who is part of the K-9 unit, with a bullet proof vest.
"It's like any of our police officers who have Kevlar vests. Our police dog also needs a vest for protection," says Fountain Council member Lois Landgraf. "They're out there on the front line everyday chasing bad guys, and it would be tragic if something were to happen to them," she adds.
This was the second "Bark in the Park" fundraiser to be held in Fountain to help raise money for the Police K-9 unit. The event ran from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Metcalf Park.
Hundreds of people came out for the event. Congressman Doug Lamborn was present for the dedication of the dog park to one of the K-9 unit's past dogs, Hondo.
Police officers barbequed meals for attendees and all donations go towards buying the vest, which costs $2000, for Scribbles. "We are a quarter of the way there," says Landgraf.
If you would like to donate to help Scribbles be protected with a vest, send donations to the following addresses:
