COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- An Iraqi national, accused of sexually assaulting a Colorado Springs woman, has been found guilty on multiple counts.
An El Paso County jury found Jasim Mohammed Hasin Ramadon guilty of all counts on Tuesday, except 1st Degree Assault.
Ramadon, who helped U.S. soldiers hunt insurgents in Iraq, was among five Iraqi men charged after a 2012 attack on an unconscious woman. The other men involved include Sarmad Fadhi Mohammed, Mustafa Sataar Al Feraji, Ali Mohammed Hasan Al Juboori, and Yasir Jabbar Jasim.
The woman was so violently sexually assaulted in the summer of 2012 that even seasoned police officers called the attack horrific.
The assault happened sometime after 1:30 a.m. on July 21, 2012 at the Wildridge Apartments on Gold Rush Lane. The victim called 9-1-1 later that morning. When officers arrived, they reported seeing a significant amount of blood thoughout the apartment.
"I would tell you that this is one of the most horrific sexual assault crimes I've seen in my career as a police officer," said Lt. Howard Black.
The victim told investigators she had gone for a walk and stopped to check her mailbox when she heard a disturbance. She saw two groups of men who appeared angry and looked as if they wanted to hurt each other and chose to stand between them in an attempt to calm them down.
She was later invited into an apartment and the last thing she remembered was drinking what she thought was lemonade.
