Iowa man jailed for drugged driving in deadly head-on crash

A 60 year old Iowa man was arrested and booked into the Fremont County Jail Thursday on charges of vehicular homicide for reportedly causing a deadly head-on collision on US Hwy 50.

Colorado State Troopers suspect William Shaffer of North Liberty Iowa was driving his 2011 Chevrolet under the influence of drugs when he crossed into the wrong lane of traffic about 3 miles west of the town of Howard.

Shaffer collided with Heather Dunn, 41, of Cotopaxi who died at the scene. She was driving 1985 Subaru and was not wearing a seat belt.

Shaffer was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the Heart of the Rockies Medical Center in Salida with minor injuries before being taken into custody.
