Investigation into televangelists ends

NEW YORK (AP) - An Iowa senator's high-profile investigation of televangelists is wrapping up after more than three years with no penalties for pastors who refused to cooperate and no definitive findings of wrongdoing.

The report that Sen. Chuck Grassley released Thursday raises questions about personal use of church-owned airplanes and credit cards by pastors and their families.  But the senator draws no specific conclusions about whether the ministries violated tax rules on spending.

Two of the targeted televangelists - Joyce Meyer and Benny Hinn - made changes in how they operate their ministries in response to the inquiry.  But four of the ministries said they comply with IRS rules and refused to provide information.
