The intersection of Centennial and Fillmore on the west side of Colorado Springs is closed and will remain blocked off throughout the weekend.
Colorado Springs Utilities is working on a drought mitigation project in that area. More than 300 feet of pipe will be installed to bring more more water into the City. While it will inconvenience motorists traveling through that part of town, CSU says it will have big payoffs when complete.
"Anytime you can deliver an additional 8 million gallons of water a day to the community is a great benefit," Steve Berry with Colorado Springs Utilities said.
If all goes as planned, the intersection will re-open Monday morning.
King Soopers and surrounding businesses near that intersection will remain open during construction.
The entire project will be complete early next year.
