GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - An inmate at Mesa County Community Corrections is accused of stabbing two staff members with sewing scissors.

Twenty-two-year-old Paul Savage was booked into the county jail Friday on suspicion of three counts of first-degree assault.

Police spokeswoman Kate Porras says the stabbing happened while Savage was being searched before being taken to the county jail.

The Daily Sentinel reports Savage had been serving a sentence in community corrections stemming from a 2010 conviction for sexual assault on a child, but Savage was being sent to jail because of an undisclosed disciplinary violation.
