An infant boy has died from H1N1 swine flu in El Paso County, the health department announced Tuesday afternoon. The baby reportedly had underlying health conditions, although the health department is not elaborating.
"This is very sad news and we want to express our deepest sympathy to the infant's family," said Kandi Buckland, R.N., M.P.A., executive director of the Health Department.
El Paso County has reported 138 hospitalized influenza cases since Aug. 30.
In Colorado, the state Department of Public Health and Environment reports 34 deaths, including 7 children and 27 adults, as of Oct. 31.
The death announced today comes just one day before El Paso County's first mass H1N1 swine flu vaccine clinic. It will be held at Coronado High School, 1590 W. Fillmore St., starting at 10 a.m.
