INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Drivers already know they can expect fast speeds, anxious moments and all-out craziness this weekend in Indianapolis.

Everything else will be uncertain.

With 40 driver-car combinations trying to fill 33 starting spots for this year's Indy 500, qualifying weekend could turn wild and wacky.

Drivers will get three attempts to make the field each day. The fastest four-lap averages will fill the top 24 spots Saturday. The remaining nine spots will be filled Sunday, and then everybody else will try to bump their way onto the starting grid.

With rain in the forecast for both days, most drivers may opt to keep their place instead of waiting for better favorable track conditions and giving the fans an old-time show.
