FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) - A Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Indiana has been renamed for a Fort Carson soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
The Journal Review in Crawfordsville, Ind. reports the post was formally designated the Brian Bowman VFW Post 1431 on Saturday.
Bowman, a 24-year-old Army specialist, was from Crawfordsville.
His widow, Cassie Carter Bowman, and other family members
attended the ceremony.
Bowman was one of three Fort Carson soldiers killed on Jan. 3, 2010, when they were attacked with improvised explosives and small-arms fire.
Also killed were 24-year-old Sgt. Joshua Lengstorf of Yoncalla, Ore., and 19-year-old Pvt. John Dion of Shattuck, Okla.
All three were assigned to Fort Carson's 4th Brigade Combat Team, part of the 4th Infantry Division.
