Incline taking final steps to legitimacy

After several months of meetings and planning sessions the Manitou Springs Incline could be one step closer to becoming a legitimate trail tonight. The Manitou Springs City Council is holding a special session to discuss and possibly vote on a plan to make the trail legal.
The city is one the last groups involved to sign off on the plan. Should council vote in favor, all that will be left is to receive a permit from the US Forest Service.
It is still technically illegal to hike up the old railroad ties that used to carry the cog railway. Nevertheless, tens of thousands of people visit the trail each year.
The Cog Railway and Colorado Springs Utilities are making a presentation to the council. Both groups, along with the forest service, own the land.
The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. at Manitou Springs City Hall, 606 Manitou Avenue.
