Inactive voters increase after court ruling

DENVER (AP) - Inactive voters in Colorado jumped at the chance to vote in the November election following a court ruling that it's legal.
Returns show that 6 percent of voters who didn't vote in the prior general election took part. That's twice the average the state has for counties where inactive voters were allowed to vote two years ago.
Denver District Judge Brian Whitney ruled before this year's election that Secretary of State Scott Gessler hadn't shown there would be irreparable harm if the ballots were sent. Supporters said state law doesn't specifically prohibit ballots to be mailed to inactive voters.
According to the Denver Post, Alamosa, Boulder, Conejos, Costilla, Custer, Denver, Eagle, Huerfano, Pitkin and Pueblo counties all mailed ballots to inactive voters.
