New Jersey's two senators are taking federal authorities to task for Sunday's security breach at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez criticized the Transportation Security Administration for allowing a man to enter a terminal following a woman without passing through security. The breach closed the terminal for six hours.
A security officer failed to see the man and a TSA surveillance camera wasn't storing video images. That delayed the search while TSA officials checked video from Continental Airlines cameras.
Lautenberg staffers who saw the video said a TSA security officer standing nearby didn't see the man stepping under a rope barrier and into the terminal with the woman without passing through security.
Menendez says the TSA needs to install cameras that give warnings when they're not recording.
