Staffers at the Colorado National Monument say they're making progress finding whoever was responsible for dragging a dog to its death.

An adult male German Shepherd-Blue Heeler mix was found at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday with a rope around its neck along Rim Rock Drive, the main road through the park in western Colorado.

Superintendent Joan Anzelmo says tracks left in the snow initially show the dog walking next to a vehicle, then running, and then being dragged over about 3 miles up the steep and the winding road.

Anzelmo says park employees, many of them dog owners, are determined to find those responsible. She says the park has received several tips that might lead to a suspect, but details aren't being released publicly yet.
