Whoever tossed a puppy out of an SUV in a Colorado Springs convenience store parking lot remains at-large despite tens of thousands of YouTube views of the incident.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) posted the video Friday afternoon. As of Monday afternoon, it had been viewed more than 21,000 times. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU0k5MW4AW0. The video shows a large, white SUV with tinted windows pulling in to a parking space at the 7-Eleven on West Colorado Avenue at around 6:45 on the evening of Saturday, January 29. The driver's door opens slightly and an 8-week-old chihuahua puppy wrapped inside a towel or blanket is tossed onto the pavement. The driver of the SUV backs up and exits the parking lot as the puppy emerges from its wrappings and gives brief chase of the vehicle. The puppy then runs into the arms of a 7-Eleven customer exiting the store. The customer then took the animal to the HSPPR.
"We've had a couple of leads that resulted from the newscasts. We followed up on those, but we certainly still need the support of the community to help solve this case," said Joe Stafford, Director of Animal Services at HSPPR. The culprit or culprits could face animal cruelty charges if caught.
The puppy was placed into foster care and the foster family is likely to adopt the chihuahua, according to the HSPPR. Anyone who has information that may be helpful in the investigation is asked to call the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region at (719) 473-1741.
