COLORADO SPRINGS - Animal Welfare Officers with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region are asking the public for help locating the owner of a brindle pit bull who attacked a 77-year old man as he was walking through Memorial Park last Monday.

John Castle suffered severe damage to his right hand that required skin grafts and reconstructive surgery. He will also have permanent nerve damage and will likely need physical therapy once he recovers. Castle is currently in the hospital being treated for rabies as a precaution.

Witnesses who saw the owner pull the pit bull off of Castle reported that he left the area in a green and brown colored Chrysler sedan with a Colorado license plate number 567-VFX. Anyone who may know how to contact the individual in question is encouraged to call the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region at (719) 473-1741.
