How to eat healthy while dining out

Most of us enjoy dining out at restaurants, but it can have a not so enjoyable impact on the waistline. Not to worry, it isn't impossible to eat out while staying healthy.

Dietitians say the biggest mistake people make is over-eating. There are simple ways around that, which include skipping the bread and butter before the meal; choose grilled, baked or broiled over fried; and pay close attention to portions. A great idea is splitting entrees and appetizers.

You'll also want to incorporate fruits and vegetables since they're low in calories and high in nutrients. A salad is a great way to do that, just make sure to get the dressing on the side and watch what comes with it. Some salads have more calories than a burger and fries.
