Hot today, less hot for the holiday weekend

Our hot high pressure is still sitting tight over the Great Plains on Friday, but it is finally going to begin weakening. The weakening begins today, and as a result we will notice increasing cloud cover by late afternoon, especially in areas north of Colorado Springs. A stray thunderstorm is possible in Teller County and areas north and west, too. A cold front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to Southeastern Colorado Saturday afternoon and evening. Behind the cold front, the upslope breeze will mean a few lingering showers, but expect an overall drying and warming trend to begin on Monday.

Today, temperatures will top out in the mid-to-upper 80's and even lower 90's around Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Cañon City will warm into the mid-to-upper 90's. The Lower Arkansas Valley and the Southeast Plains will warm to near or just over 100. The south of of I-25 near Walsenburg and Trinidad will warm into the lower 90's.
