Hot Air Balloon Fire

A hot air balloon apparently caught fire and crashed tonight in Virginia. Police say at least three people are unaccounted for tonight.

Witnesses first started reporting the accident around 8 o'clock this evening.
The balloon may have hit a power line, but that is still unconfirmed right now.

An eyewitness tells NBC News he was driving when he noticed smoke in the distance.
"There was nothing below the balloon. It looked like the basket had burned away," he said.
"The balloon was shrinking. As it started to lose air out of it, it collapsed to one side and then it started falling at a faster rate, and then it fell behind the tree line."

Meadow Event Park, in Caroline County, Virginia is hosting the Mid Atlantic Balloon Festival this weekend.

Law enforcement are still searching for the crashed balloon, and no confirmation on injuries. Three people are unaccounted for.
