ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) - The National Park Service says an ailing 15-year-old boy has been evacuated on horseback from the backcountry of Rocky Mountain National Park.
Park officials say the boy was taken to a clinic in Granby late Sunday night. The boy is from Castle Rock, but his name and the nature of his illness haven't been released.
The Park Service says he was part of a group camping on the park's west side. Rangers were notified Sunday afternoon that the boy was sick, but it's not clear how they were alerted.
Rangers reached the boy about 6 1/2 miles up the North Inlet Trail and provided medical care until another ranger arrived with a horse. Accompanied by rangers, the boy rode to trailhead where an ambulance took him to the clinic.
