Pueblo Police are warning holiday shoppers to watch out for thieves.

From shoplifting to car break-ins, more than 50 thefts have been reported in Pueblo over the past week. Officers say that's a slight increase during the holiday shopping season compared to years past. "It may be because of the economy. We are also seeing thefts of smaller items--items of smaller value," said Deputy Chief John Ercul, Pueblo Police Department.

Police are hoping to catch the thieves in the act by using bait cars--leaving the doors unlocked and placing valuables inside. "We will be out there, we will be very agressive, and we'll be utilizing all of the technology we can to stay ahead of the criminals," said Deputy Chief Ercul.

Police also say keep your car locked and personal items out of view or locked in the trunk.
