Update: Hit and Run Accident Leaves Man in Hospital

Update:

The suspect, 32 year Julian Dumont contacted and turned himself in to the Colorado Springs Police. He faces charges that fall under Accidents Involving Injuries and Duty to Report Accidents.

Original Story:

Shortly after 2:00 Sunday morning, Colorado Springs Police were dispatched to a reported traffic accident involving a vehicle and pedestrian near the intersection of Cimarron St and Nevada Avenue. When officers and emergency crews arrived, they discovered a a man had been struck in the roadway. Police identify the man as, 24 year old Travis McGahee who had been walking north across Cimarron Street at Nevada and had begun to cross against the crosswalk signal and was struck by a grey full size van that was traveling westbound on a green light.

The van struck Mr. McGahee causing significant, yet non life threatening injuries. Witnesses tell police that the van drove away from the scene and was not seen again. The van is described as a late 70's-80's Ford Econoline full size van, metallic grey in color, with front end damage. The vehicle is also missing part of the grey plastic grill on the passenger side to include part of the headlamp assembly and is leaking radiator fluid, presumably due to the collision with Mr. McGahee.

Colorado Springs Police are asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of this vehicle or the driver are urged to contact them at 444-7727 or Crime stoppers at 634-STOP.
