WASHINGTON (AP) - Four words that were added to the Pledge of Allegiance during the height of the Cold War - "one nation under God" - are the theme of today's 61st annual National Day of Prayer. Congress established the day of prayer in 1952 and in 1988 declared that it would be held every year on the first Thursday in May. Shirley Dobson, who chairs the National Day of Prayer Task Force, says this year's theme echoes a Bible verse from Psalms: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." She's attending an observance today on Capitol Hill in Washington with her husband, Dr. James Dobson, and the Rev. David Jeremiah. It's one of tens of thousands of prayer gatherings that are scheduled today, and have been endorsed by President Barack Obama and governors across the nation.
