Highway travel in Colorado just went from bad to worse.
I-70 is already closed indefinitely in both directions because of a massive rock slide.
Now, according to the State Patrol, westbound Highway 50 has chain restrictions at Monarch Pass because of snow. Eastbound is closed.
The best interstate route west is I-80 in Wyoming or I-40 in New Mexico.
You may take smaller roads in Colorado, but they will be impacted by weather or heavy traffic from the I-70 detour. Unsuspecting motorists on I-70 are being sent on round-about detours up to 200 miles out of their way.
