High 5: Middle school teacher receives MathMovesU Hero Award

A high 5 goes out to Mr. Hutcherson a math teacher at West Middle School in Colorado Springs School District 11. Hutcherson received Raytheon Company's MathMovesU Math Hero Award. He was nominated for his enthusiasm and interest in teaching math and was selected from a field of 111nominations.

Hutcherson will receive a $2,500 award and a matching grant for West Middle School.

Math Hero Awards are a component of Raytheon's MathMovesU program, a national initiative designed to engage middle school students in math and science through a variety of programs including contests, live events, scholarships, tutoring programs, and more.

The Math Hero Award from MathMovesU honors Mr. Hutcherson and 31 other teachers and volunteers across the United States whose efforts in the classroom interest and engage students in math through effective and creative learning exercises.

"We are very proud of Phil and what he brings to our math program at West Middle School, where we have been ranked as a "Gold" School by MathCounts for two years running," said Clay Gomez, West Middle School principal.
