PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - Gov. John Hickenlooper says he supports Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel's plan to ramp up production to 24 hours a day.
The mill in Pueblo needs to renew its state clean-air permit for increased operations. Hickenlooper told The Pueblo Chieftain he wants to speed up the permit review process and is willing to use his executive authority to grant the mill a temporary exemption from any permit so it can boost production.
But first, he says, he would want to ensure Evraz would eventually qualify for a new emission permit, because granting the mill a waiver would make the state liable for any pollution violations.
