Hero dog looking for home

Each year military dogs give their lives to protect the lives of others. Now one retired dog who lost his handler during combat is hoping to find a place to call home.

"He's got full energy and he has already overcome adversary" said Michael Perini.

Like most dogs, eight-year old Bady loves playing with his toys.

"He loves chasing this toy the kong. thats his favorite", said Lani Singh.

But Bady is not your ordinary pet.

""Bady is a real combat hero", said Michael Perini.  "A real combat veteran. For seven years he's been out safe guarding all of our sailors, soldiers, airmen, our military men and wome,  looking for land mines".

But in 2010 things took a turn for the worst.  While searching in a village in Northern Afghanistan, Bady's combat unit was involved in an explosion. That's when man's best friend lost his only friend.

"During one of the missions that Bady and his handler were on unfortunately his handler was killed and we found out later that Bady was injured", said Michael Perini.

On July 9th he arrived at the Denver Internation Airport where he was placed in the hands of the Wild Blue Animal Rescue in Colorado Springs. A hero that had saved so many lives, needed a life saving procedure himself.

"His injures were as such that with infection and everything we had to amputate his leg", said Michael Perini.

"What they do is pretty much put their lives on the line and they don't realize they are doing it", said Steve Leimer.  "They think its just another game and they are out there playing but they are protecting us."

Bady is now learning to get around on three legs. And he has earned the right of passage from a working dog to a loyal pet.

"He needs to have a home that has a large fenced yard", said Michael Perini.  "You can see how much energy he has. He still wants to play. Also, probably no children or cats and someone who has experience with handling a large dog.

"Its a unique experience. Some civilan family is going to be really lucky to have one of these dogs", said Michael Urquhart.

A forever family who's sure to win his love.
