Helping wildlife safely cross the road in Colorado

A new billboard has gone up just west of Idaho Springs along Interstate 70 to urge drivers to report wildlife they see near the highway.

A coalition of businesses, state agencies and nonprofits wants to reduce the number wildlife-vehicle collisions on Colorado highways.

The groups are asking drivers to post information about wildlife they see online. Paige Bonaker of the Center for Native Ecosystems says data will help wildlife groups and state agencies identify where animals are frequently trying to cross.

Wildlife groups and agencies say hundreds of animals are hit each year as they try to cross I-70 between Golden and Glenwood Springs.
