A fire department helicopter has plucked on lucky dog out of the storm-swollen Los Angeles river.
The dog was first spotted as it tried to make its way across the raging water shortly after 10 a.m. Friday in the Los Angeles suburb of Vernon. Unable to make its way up the steep concrete banks, it eventually found itself stuck in the fast-moving water.
Rescuers attempted to snag the dog using a rope and life preserver, but eventually called in the helicopter. A firefighter lowered from the chopper was eventually able to grab the dog and after a brief struggle the pair were lifted out of the water and set down on a nearby bridge.
Both received medical evaluations after the rescue.
