Heavy patrols, DUI checkpoints planned for holiday

The heat is on this New Year's holiday. Over the next few days, the Colorado State Patrol and more than 50 other law enforcement agencies across the state will be cracking down on people who drink and drive.

The state patrol says drivers should expect to see more patrols on the roads in both Pueblo and El Paso counties. Plus, troopers will be setting up DUI check points across the state.

Since Thanksgiving, the Colorado State Patrol says seven people have been killed in Colorado in alcohol related crashes. "That's a 50% reduction from last year, but there are at least 7 families out there that think that's 7 crashes too many and we're trying to reduce that down to zero" said Sgt. Michael Baker with the Colorado State Patrol. "Make sure everyone has a fun weekend, but a safe weekend as well," he added.
