Obesity could lead to sudden heart attack or death in men--even if they are otherwise healthy.

Experts in Sweden followed over 1700 men for 30 years and found those who were overweight or obese were significantly more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. They say obese men who didn't have other health problems -- like high blood pressure or cholesterol -- were not exempt from the increased risk.

The chance of developing heart disease was 95 percent higher in obese men without metabolic disease -- that number jumped to 155 percent if they did have the condition.

While data is not available for women, the researchers believe that it would be similar.

The study was led by researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden and published in the journal Circulation.
