Head-on crash leaves two in critical condition

PUEBLO - Police say alcohol may have played a role in a head-on collision on Highway 50 West in Pueblo. Two people are in critical condition after a car driving in the wrong direction with its lights off, crashed head-on into a truck.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. last night. Police say the car was driving in the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 West near the Pueblo Airport interchange at the time.

Witnesses say the car almost hit two other cars before the crash. Police say 34 year-old Alyssa Shelton was driving the car. Shelton and a 33 year-old man were critically injured. A 36 year-old woman was treated and released from the hospital.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 50 West were closed for four hours during an investigation but are now open.
