COLORADO SPRINGS - The Harrison School District has selected Andre Spencer from the Houston Independent School District as their sole finalist to become the next superintendent of schools.
A native of Baltimore, Spencer will succeed Mike Miles at the district's top executive after Miles left to oversees the schools in Dallas.
A news release issued Wednesday said Spencer rose through the ranks as a teacher to become a principal then central administrator. He is also excepted to receive his doctorate degree in June.
"Andre is a superbly qualified leader who commanded the immediate respect of the Board, staff and community members who had the pleasure of meeting him while he was here for his interview last week," said school board president Deborah Hendrix.
"We enjoyed an unusually high quality pool of applicants from throughout the nation, but Andre rose to the top in the minds of every member of the Board."
Spencer is expected to assume his new role overseeing the 13 schools of the Harrison School District on January 1.
