DENVER (AP) - Sleeping in Denver parks is illegal. Sleeping on other Denver city property is not.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock says he would support a new city ordinance that would outlaw camping and says he's surprised that it already isn't prohibited.
The Denver Post reports that Hancock says that since coming to office in July he's been working on a
solution to the growing presence of homeless people on Denver streets.
The city's visitors and convention bureau say safety and the number of homeless people on Denver's downtown 16th Street Mall is among the top complaints. Hancock adds that dealing with homelessness doesn't just involve arrests. He other issues that include mental health, drug addictions or changes in people's lives
also need to be addressed.
