The Fremont County Health Department says an illness sweeping through Canon City Middle School is the H1N1 virus or swine flu.

Becki Vettesse, Director of Public Health in Fremont County says three students tested positive for the virus. The test results came back Tuesday morning from a state health lab.

Last week, about 70 students from the school stayed home sick with flu like symptoms.

Vettesse says at this time, no other students will be tested for the virus. Vettesse says they're going to assume a majority of the students who are sick have H1N1 flu.

Health officials say students with illnesses should stay home at least 24 hours after the fever breaks.
