Guns in schools bill defeated in Senate committee

A Senate committee in Denver says 'no' to a proposal to arm teachers and administrators in our schools.
The republican sponsored bill was defeated by the democratic controlled committee by a 3 to 2 vote along party lines.
The vote came hours after more than a hundred gun control supporters rallied at the capitol, calling for an assault weapons ban, ammunition limits, and expanded background checks.
Opponents of the concealed carry legislation said schools should focus on overall building security, counseling of students, and identifying bullies and other threats to students before something more serious occurs. Rules on the books now prohibit concealed weapons at K-12 schools in Colorado.
Democrats say they will introduce their own gun control agenda when more specific language is drafted. On Sunday Rep. Rhonda Fields gave a nod to a federal proposal to limit assault weapons with high capacity magazines; she's calling for similar moves at the state level.
