Green is growing in Colorado. Green collar jobs are showing growth.
The state has been working to attract large new energy companies with high tech and manufacturing jobs. According to the Governor's Office the effort has brought around 17,000 jobs to the state over the past three years.
There are also some small businesses showing success. "You couldn't ask for a better place to be the hub of solar right now," says Justin Weis who started a solar and wind power installation company a year ago, "solar and wind is just a huge, huge thing and it's not going away, it's just going to get bigger." He started with one employee and now has four. There's so much work, Weis says, "Right now we're putting together two more crews."
Looking at the country's economic slump, Weis says "I did a lot of research to figure out, are people really going to be able to afford this." He now attributes part of his business success to showing people how to take advantage of government rebates. "They're taking money that they're sitting on because of the way the economy is and investing in into green energy."
