Local civil rights groups and the pastors of local churches called on Congressman Doug Lamborn to resign Monday morning. The Colorado Springs Branch of the NAACP, the El Paso County Ministerial Union and members of the El Paso County Democratic Party held a rally outside of the Republican Congressman's Colorado Springs office to express their outrage over Lamborn's use of the words "tar baby" in reference to President Obama in radio interview about the debt ceiling debate.
A press assistant welcomed the leaders of the rally into the office lobby and received letters of complaint from them. The group is demanding a face to face meeting with the Congressman.
Lamborn sent a letter of apology to the president on August 1, and said in a statement that he "regrets that he chose the word 'tar baby,' rather than the word 'quagmire.'"
