Group collects items for Montana flood victims

A charity group in Colorado Springs is organizing a relief effort for residents in Montana who have been devastated by floods. Heavy rainfall and melting snowpack has flooded the Crow Reservation in Southeast Montana. Dozens of homes have been destroyed.

In Colorado Springs the group One Nation Walking Together is asking for donations. They plan to fill up a semi truck with donated items and ship it to Montana next week.

"I believe our reservations are the forgotten ones," said Kathy Arnold, with One Nation Walking Together. "We hear often of the tragedies in Haiti or the hurricanes in New Orleans, but we don't often hear about the tragedies that happen on the Native American reservations," she added.

The group is asking for donated furniture, beds, households and personal hygiene items. You can drop them off at 45 Commerce St. in Colorado Springs, Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Their phone number is 719-329-0251.
