DENVER (AP) - Groundwater near oil and gas wells is up for discussion by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

The industry regulators are set to hold a hearing Wednesday on proposed rules for sampling and monitoring of groundwater near proposed new wells. The tests could help show whether water has or hasn't been contaminated by drilling.

The commission will later consider testimony on "setbacks," or how close wells can be to buildings such as schools or homes.

Decisions on those and other matters before the commission probably won't be made until next month.
