GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Frontier Academy in Weld County is hiring the Rocky Mountain Guardian Angels to protect its students.
The school's board of directors recently agreed to contract with Rocky Mountain Guardian Angels to begin walking the perimeters of its two charter school locations. The school says it had to hire outside security because state law does not allow charter schools to hire their own security force.
Rocky Mountain Guardian Angels is a local nonprofit organization that was established in response to the growing number of mass shootings at schools.
The Greeley Tribune reports the program will place off-duty, armed law-enforcement personnel in plain clothing on school campuses, including off-duty state troopers.
