Gov. Bill Ritter has made official what Colorado Rockies fans already decided: "Rocktober" has arrived.

It didn't take Ritter long after the Rockies' 9-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday to proclaim October as "Rocktober" in honor of the team's advance to the playoffs.

The Rockies wrapped up the National League wild card spot. The type in the e-mail from the governor's office was purple, the team's color.

Ritter issued a similar proclamation two years ago, when the term "Rocktober" was first bannered across local newspapers on the team's way to its only appearance in the World Series. The Boston Red Sox swept the Rockies in the series.

Not to be outdone, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has announced that team flags will fly at the City and County Building and Webb Municipal Building. City Hall's outside lights will turn purple on game days during the Rockies' playoff run.
