GOP fears losing majority party status in Colorado

Colorado's Republican Party could become a minor party and lose traditional fundraising opportunities in the 2012 presidential election if its candidate for governor, tea party favorite Dan Maes, gets less than 10 percent of the vote on Nov. 2.
It's a stunning prospect for a party that has the largest voting bloc in Colorado.
Republican state party chairman Dick Wadhams says it probably will happen because of character issues with Maes.
It could affect fundraising and the party's placement on the ballot. If it does happen, the Republican National Committee says Colorado would be the only state in the nation where the Republicans would be a minor party.
