"God Bless the USA" banned from kindergarten graduation

A public school principal in New York City is creating a bit of controversy after allowing students to sing a teenage pop song while banning them from performing "God Bless the USA."
Daniel Mitchell, 5, was planning to sing the patriotic tune at his kindergarten "Moving Up" ceremony. Mitchell's mother, Luz Lozada, says that song got nixed by PS 90 principal Greta Hawkins.
"We proud to be an American so can live free, so it shouldn't be a problem singing that over a teenage love song," Lozada said.
Instead, her son will be singing Justin Bieber's "Baby," which was approved by Hawkins. The City's Department of Education is backing the principal's decision; saying the words are too grown-up for kindergarteners.
